Quarter red morocco lettered and ruled in gilt with red morocco quarter circles at the corners over red paper covered boards. Very good copy, boards lightly rubbed, and just a little foxing to a few plates.
§ Large paper copy of Wakefield’s elegant edition of Virgil, extra illustrated with 67 engraved plates and with an exceptional provenance from the publisher A.A. Renouard (who presumably had the copy extra illustrated and bound), thence through the distinguished libraries of Colonel Daniel Edgar Sickles, Cortlandt Bishop and Josy Mazodier, with each of the owners’ bookplates. Recorded in the catalogue of the Cortlandt Bishop sale (1938) as follows:

Extra-illustrated with an original small oval portrait of Virgil drawn in pencil by Augustin de Saint Aubin laid in at the front of the first volume [this drawing now no longer in the book] and 51 engravings by Dupreel, Simonet, De Ghent, Picart, Dambrun, and many others after the drawings of Moreau Le Jeune, Zocchi, Salvage and other artists, including a few in two states.
