Slim 4to, 59,[60-62]pp. Modern marbled boards, red morocco backstrip lettered in gilt. Signed in ink on verso of title "John Gwynn, Neath July 11th 1751" (showing through somewhat). Also signed on p. 1: "John Gwynn 1749". Iceland bookplate of Robert Herring on front pastedown. Occasional light toning but good margins with no trimming of the text; very good.

§ Fourth edition of this tragedy in rhyming couplets, first acted in June 1669, and published in 1670. It is based on the legend of Saint Catherine of Alexandria who was put to death by the Roman Emperor Maximinus, the "tyrant" of the title. The play was hugely successful and was revived several times, this edition coinciding with the third production. Wing D2396; ESTC R15523. Item #126932
