§ Title page and frontispiece engraved by Hugh Anderson. One of several editions of this popular poem printed in Philadelphia in the early years of the 19th century. No publisher or date stated. A copy at the Library Company has a manuscript inscription dated 1815.
Signature of one Ann McClure of Philadelphia on the half title and of her son Rev. Dr. David McClure of Oakland, CA, on title page. A note by David beneath Ann's signature records her ownership and her death in 1832. David McClure was a minister and educator. He founded the California Military Academy in 1865, reportedly the West Coast’s first military school and served as an Episcopalian priest under California's first bishop, William Ingraham Kip.
