1845. England: early Victorian period, c. 1845.
114 bone tiles with engraved letters in inked in black on front and back (upper and lower case letters), enclosed in the original mahogany box with bone panel on the sliding top lettered "SPELLING Alphabet". In very good condition, slight wear to some of the tiles but no loss.
§ Of considerable rarity complete and in perfect condition, four alphabet sets and two extra sets of vowels, intended for the education of young children. By their nature they would be easily damaged or lost and a complete set in the original container like this is almost unfindable. Item #107968
