12mo, 8 leaves, printed on one side only. Naive binding of old printed wrappers from waste paper. Inscribed “Christmas present from Miss Emily Greco to Lady Frances Hastings [Lady Huntington] as a reward for good behaviour - December 24th 1820, Nursery". The inscription has been copied on the facing page and there is a briefer version on the inside of the printed wrapper. Quite browned and foxed with a few annotations and a small childish doodle.
§ First English edition, very scarce. Three copies have sold at auction in the last 50 years. The 1984 facsimile of this edition was reproduced by The Friends of the Osborne and Lillian H. Smith Collections, Toronto Public Library. The entire story in the form of a long rebus, the solution to each page being printed at the bottom. Darton G 365(1). Item #106825
