§ First edition of this extensive history of the French military, from the founding of the French Monarchy to the end of the reign of King Louis XIV. Plates depict arms and armor, fortified cities, battle maneuvers and strategies, military musical instruments, arrangement of an army’s lodgings, battleships, etc. Daniel, a Jesuit theologian and librarian, achieved great fame for his “Histoire de France” (1713) and became historian to the King.
