The Faithful Sheep.

Buffalo: Breed, Butler & Co. 1863 64mo, 1-5/8" by 1-1/4", 64 pages. Original brown cloth, with gilt and blind-stamping and decoration, gilt edges. A fine copy, signed at the front twice “Helen Wheeler” at around the time of publication. A lovely copy of this rare miniature. Only one copy located (in poor condition) for sale, in blue cloth. “Aunt Laura” was a pseudonym of Barrow who published several miniature books with Breed, Butler: Bondy (p. 73) mentions several titles but not this one. The Marcus Collection catalogue #81 lists a Barrow title, but again not this one. No examples seem to have sold at auction -- Bromer and Edison pp.141-43 devote a whole section to her writings under two pseudonyms, the other being “Aunt Fanny” but this title is not included. Not in Olschki, nor Dawson’s cat. 517. (Item Id: 9228)
