Huge single leaf from a missal or lectionary.

Italy, c. 1150. Large folio, 48 x 39 cms. 46 lines of text written in a large and broad Carolingian minuscule in double columns, in red and black with three large initials. A glorious leaf, written in a most handsome script with a monumental quality to it of such regularity that it could serve as an exemplar of the style. The text includes part of the Acts of the Saints, including SS.Ferreolus, Barbara, and Julian. The size and style indicates the intention for it to be used on a lectern. Removed at some time from a binding, thus creased horizontally affecting one line of text, otherwise in perfect condition on both sides. Full description and images available on my website.
