New York: The Century Co., 1898. Large 4to, [i-xx], 184 pp. Each page of text set within a decorative border, from an array of decorative borders by each of the artists used alternately throughout. In addition, there are scores of full page relief engravings, and vignette engravings throughout the text. Original quarter cloth, pictorial boards, a bit worn but good. First Edition. Louis Rhead (1857-1926) was a British artist who came to America in 1883 at the invitation of Appleton Publishing Company. "He quickly established a reputation as a designer of book covers, and was one of the first artists to design posters for the holiday issues of periodicals, a practice that led directly to the poster craze of the 1890's."
