A Collector's Comment on his First Editions of the Works of Sir Walter Scott.
San Francisco: Gelber, Lilienthal, Inc., 1932. 8vo, (viii), 156, (1) pp. Frontispiece portrait and 6 facsimile plates. Original blue boards, grey cloth backstrip, printed paper labels. Grey cloth on upper board faintly spotted, book plate of John Howell, very good. First edition, one of 400 copies printed at the Grabhorn Press. Author's presentation inscription on the front free endpaper "To my friend Herbert L. Rothschild Esq with the compliments of Wm C Van Antwerp June 2 1932." Rothschild is mentioned on pg. 83 as the owner of one of the eleven surviving copies of Waverly firsts in original boards located by the author. Still a useful bibliography of Scott's first editions with much commentary. Heller & Magee: 166.
