Letters From Everest.
London: Silverbear an Imprint of Polarworld, 2013. Small 8vo, 176 pp. illustrated with b&w photographs, in original decorated grey cloth, pictorial endpapers, in a matching slipcase. New. Limited edition, one of 60 copies signed by the editor, by Jan Morris, and Peter Hillary (Edmund's son), with a portrait of Lowe from Edmund Hillary's photograph of him at Base Camp in 1953, and a tipped-in section of cloth from the sleeping bag that Lowe used on Everest. George Lowe was a member of the first ascent of Everest in 1953 and was instrumental in securing the high camps in preparation for Hillary and Tenzig's successful push to the summit. Lowe, like Hillary, was a New Zealander; these very personal letters were written to his family in New Zealand during his time on Everest in 1953. The letters were published in 2013, for the 60th anniversary of the first ascent.
