Original blue-grey coth, backstri[lettered in gilt, gilt top. A very good copy. First edition of this study of the people and the landscape of the Carolina mountains. With map endpapers Margaret Warner Morley was an educator, biologist, author, and a suffragette. She lived in Tryon, North Carolina where she studied, sketched and photographed the rural wilderness of the state. Of this book, the New York Times printed, in November 1913, "The text is historical, descriptive, and anecdotal, and has the compelling charm of utter familiarity... No possible beauty of the Blue Ridge or Smoky Montains is omitted."
