Original black cloth with color plate on front, backstrip dull otherwise very good with an ink presentation at the front. First illustrated edition from this artist. Virginia Frances Sterrett (19001931) was an American artist and illustrator. She was 19 when The Penn Publishing Company commissioned her to illustrate Old French Fairy Tales, a collection of stories by Comtesse de Ségur (Sophie Fedorovna Rostopchine) a French writer of Russian birth. Sterrett, whose style recalls Kay Nielsen, died in Los Angeles of TB at 31 after illustrating three books.
