Original black slipcase numbered 5, with back strip detached. #5 of 265 copies signed by the author. Gift inscription at the front dated 1932. Jeffers receives the highest praise from Edgar Lee Masters on the front jacket blurb of the trade edition. A single poem of novelistic length with a tragic plot, it was compared by Masters to the works of Sophocles and by others to Euripedes.
