Wilders second novel and the winner of the 1928 Pulitzer Prize. The story of a Franciscan Friar who witnesses the deadly collapse of a woven Inca rope bridge and who inquires into the lives of the victims in an attempt to discern divine providence. It has been adapted three times for film.
