Paris and its Environs with Routes from London to Paris handbook for Travellers.
Leipzig: Karl Baedeker Publisher, 1907. Small 8vo, liv, 470 + 48 pp., with numerous color maps including many fold-outs, and the detachable terminal booklet Index of Streets and Plans of Paris still attached. Full red pebbled cloth, stamped in blind, with gilt titles, marbled edges, red and green ribbon markers. Two light spots on backstrip, binding otherwise remarkably bright and clean. Brentanos of Paris bookseller ticket on front pastedown, owners name on title page, no other markings within. From the pristine condition of the fragile fold-out maps it appears this traveller bought this copy from Brentanos on LAvenue de LOpera and never opened it again. Sixteenth revised edition with 14 maps and 38 plans, first issued in 1865. As in all Baedeker guides, the enormously informative text is triumph of concision. The maps and travel plans are meant to aid the traveler so as to make him independent, and thus the captain of his own voyage, immune to the tricks and traps that befall the average tourist.
