Blake, William. Separate Plate of "The Beggar's Opera" in The Works Of William Hogarth.
London: Baldwin, Cradock and Joy, 1822. Oblong large folio, finely colored by a skilled hand probably in the early 19th century. Comparison of the coloring with Hogarths paintings shows a familiarity with his palate. A few tears and repairs in the margins not affecting the image, recently cleaned and restored. Matted. Blakes one plate was first included in Hogarths Works 1790 and is here present in the fourth state (of seven), and beautifully colored . No other colored example is known though when and by whom it was colored is conjectural. Bentley, BB, 475 I. Essick, William Blakes Commercial Book Illustrations, XX
