New York: Random House, 1934. 8vo., [1]-270 pp., title-page printed in black on a gold oval ground. Original gray and black cloth, with gold foil wraparound title band lettered in black, top-edge pale-orange, in original dust jacket. Lower edge of the boards has some minor damp stains, dust jacket has scattered age toning and chipping and a thin section of the jacket—just below the publication imprint—has been purposefully torn away. Despite these minor blemishes, the book is mostly in very good condition. Inscribed on the first endpaper by William Saroyan, “To Doris Flagg, sincere good wishes from William Saroyan, Oct. 1934.” First edition of the author’s first book. From the jacket: “William Saroyan can well afford to disdain the sure-fire tricks of an old trade. The fertility of his imagination makes his stories stir and live on their own account. He writes in such a fever of exaltation and with such savage mockery that his readers are carried from height to height by his breath-taking virtuosity.” (Item Id: 108663)
