London & New York: Sotheby Parke Bernet Publications in association with The Trustees of the Dickens House, [1975]. 4to., xvi, 299 pp., 68 b&w plates both full-page and in text. Original green buckram, with Alain de Suzannet crest stamped in gilt to upper board, and titling in gilt to backstrip, and original pictorial dust jacket. A very good copy. First edition. Comte Alain de Suzannet was a French scholar whom built a great Dickens collection over the course of 30 years. At the time of his death in 1950 his collection was considered one of the two finest privately owned Dickens collections in the world. In 1971 Comtesse de Suzannet sold half the collection in a private sale at Sotheby’s, and the rest was presented shortly after to The Dickens House where two rooms were dedicated to exhibiting the material. This catalogue preserves a detailed record of all the items from both the Sotheby’s sale and those gifted to The Dickens House, illustrated with black and white photos and facsimiles.
