Contemporary red calf, double-ruled border in gilt to both boards, upper board with gilt medallion of “Queen Elizabeth’s Free Grammar School, St. Olave’s, Southwark,” backstrip five raised bands, lettering, flourishes and rules in gilt, blind dentelles, all edges marbled, and marbled endpapers. Some faint shelf-wear and sun-toning, otherwise very good. Bookplate to first pastedown with ink signatures, “St. Olave’s Grammar School/Presented To R. S. Chapman/As A Prize For success in the London/Intermediate Arts Examination/W.F. Witton M.A. Class Master/W.G. Rushbrooke LL.M. Headmaster/ Midsummer 1911.” The Victoria Edition, reprinted from the first edition of 1887. The text of this edition was taken from the “Globe Shakespeare,” edited by William George Clark and William Aldis Wright, and with a new glossary. A lovely little set of Shakespeare’s plays, with the bookplate of St. Olave’s School, founded during Shakespeare’s lifetime for the benefit of poor children. (Item Id: 108485)
