Contemporary navy-blue calf, with double-ruled borders and Masonic crest and motto stamped in gilt, backstrip with five raised bands, lettering, rules and flourishes in gilt to panels, blind dentelles, all edges marbled, and marbled endpapers. Some minor foxing on leaves surrounding the plates, backstrip slightly sunned, otherwise a very good copy. Bookplate of “Charterhouse” with signature “E. Davies, Upper IV (13) Form Prize,” and “S. H. Rendall, Head Master, Dec. 1905.” Reprinted from the Complete Edition of 1894, first published by R. & R. Clarke in 1884. This copy has the unique provenance of The Charterhouse Deo Dante Dedi Lodge, No. 2885, founded in 1901, with the signature of a former headmaster. An essential volume for any collector of Tennyson or of copies affiliated with the Masonic Lodge and Old Carthusians. Alfred Tennyson himself was a known Freemason. (Item Id: 108435)
