Apart from the last four numbers which have fairly chipped wrappers, the set is in overall very good clean condition. First edition, first issue of all 88 original weekly parts. Two frontispieces and 130 woodcuts by H. K. Browne, one frontispiece and 38 woodcuts by George Cattermole, one woodcut by S. Williams, and one woodcut by Daniel Maclise. Master Humphrey’s Clock was an ambitious experiment published by Dickens himself, originally conceived to encompass more diverse content rather than the usual serial stories. Due to a drop off in circulation that original project was abandoned and a serial was begun at the fourth number under the title of The Old Curiosity Shop. Hatton and Cleaver 163-182. Eckel 61-65. Thomson 30. (Item Id: 108372)
