Russia with Teheran, Port Arthur, and Peking Handbook for Travellers.
Leipzig: Karl Baedeker Publisher, 1914. Small 8vo., lxiv, 590 pp., 40 color maps including many fold-outs. Full red pebbled cloth, stamped in blind, with gilt title, marbled edges. Backstrip slightly rubbed, tape repair to first fold-out map; otherwise very good. First edition thus. One of the most collectable Baedeker volumes as it functions as a sort of time capsule for pre-Revolution and World War I Russia. The maps and travel plans are meant to aid the traveler so as to make him independent, and thus the captain of his own voyage, immune to the tricks and traps that befall the average tourist, and equipped with up-to-date insider information to thoroughly immerse oneself in the attractions of the country being explored.
