Edward Herbert, 1st Baron Herbert of Cherbury (1583-1648) was an Anglo-Welsh soldier, diplomat, historian, poet and religious philosopher. Many of his works were published posthumously. Herbert was responsible for the first purely metaphysical treatise written by an Englishman, and is known as the father of English Deism. Wing II 1507A.
