Blue paper boards with white paper label affixed to backstrip, blue dust jacket imitative of original, joints cracked, upper hinge separated from boards exposing the spine, edges untrimmed, internally bright; good. Gift inscription in ink on the lower pastedown. First edition thus, number 418 of 500 copies, signed by the author. A pedantic chronicle of wild animals from Greek poetry with biographical references. Norman Douglas (1868-1952) was a British author, best known for his novel South Wind. He met D. H. Lawrence while working for The English Review, and feuded with him after Lawrence in his 1922 novel, Aaron’s Rod based a character on him. He was arrested for indecent assault on a sixteen-year-old boy in London, and had to flee several countries during his lifetime due to similar accusations.
