Four complete sets of alphabet tiles and two sets of vowels, engraved with the upper and lower case letters of the alphabet.

England: early Victorian period, c. 1845. 114 bone tiles with engraved letters in black, enclosed in the original mahogany box with bone panel on the sliding top lettered SPELLING ALPHABET. In very good condition, slight wear to some of the discs but no loss. Of great rarity complete and in perfect condition, these four alphabet sets and two extra sets of vowels were intended for young children and play with to learn the alphabet. By their nature they would be easily damaged or lost and a complete set in the original container like this is virtually unfindable. (Item Id: 107968)
