The Thorold copy with the Syston Park bookplate and the later bookplate of Nellie Brown MD. A pleasant copy . The second Elzevir edition of this famous defense of Christianity by the renowned scholar Grotius, first published in England, also at Oxford, in 1639, with unsold sheets re-issued with new title-pages in 1650 and 1660. Grotius composed this work during his imprisonment of 161921 and published an initial version in Dutch in 1622.
