The Ballad of Sexual Dependency.
New York: Aperture Books, 1986. Oblong 4to, 144 pp. Hardcover. Original dust jacket with small closed tear to headcap. Minor shelfwear. A very good copy. First edition, first printing (with the cover price of $39.95) of Nan Goldins famous first book. A photo-diary of her life in bohemian New York - a period piece and a deeply personal memoir of a group of friends. Reappropriating the family medium of the slide show and the photo album, Goldin creates a visual diary of the private lives of her chosen family of gays, lesbians, transgender people, and others outside mainstream society whom she has photographed consistantly over 30 years. (Encyclopedia of Twentieth-Century Photography, p. 621.) J. Hoberman of The Village Voice called it a sexual taxonomy of the 80s. A lovely copy of a very important work in twentieth-century photography.
