Stuttgart: W. Nitzschke, [1878]. 4to, pictorial chromolithographed thick leaves comprising 26 plates of images. Original boards, modern cloth backstrip. A very good copy of a great rarity. First edition. First demonstrative picture book by Meggendorfer, an "absolute rarity" (Krahe, Spielwelt). No copy in North America or the UK; four copies in Europe (all Germany). No copy listed on ABPC; one copy in European auction records (Ketterer Kunst 2011). Note: one image in the book is dated “1878”; also, at the front is an image lettered “ABC” and, as the book is 26 pages (each page perhaps with a common denominator that is self-evident in German), it is perhaps an ABC book itself.Krahe 45. - Krahe, Spielwelt 43 und S. 38-39, S. 180 (mit Abbildung). - Ries S. 710, 1. “Erste Ausgabe. (Item Id: 106820)
