Cambridge: Typis Acedemicis, London: Jacob Tonson, 1699. 4to, (7), 479pp. Lacks the engraved frontispiece, with engraved head and tail pieces. Full diced calf, intricately decorated in gilt. Front board is quite loose. Speckled edges. Marbled endpapers. Bookplate from the North Library in front pastedown. Lightly foxed throughout, visible paper repair on p. 379. Old manuscript translation of the 9th ode “To Lydia” loosely inserted. A scarce and important edition, here sadly lacking the engraved frontispiece.Often called a “magnificent and correct edition” Dibdin uncharacteristically notes the 8vo reprint of 1701 and calls the 4to edition “waste paper”.
