Contemporary green calf with gilt tooling and red stenciling, raised bands, spine lettered and stamped in gilt, a.e.g., marbled endpapers. Minor wear to joints, light foxing; very good copy. Bookplate of “Robert R. Martin” on front pastedown. Published with illustrations here for the first time. Another issue of this edition appeared in 1726 with the imprint: London: printed for B. Motte. Hudibras: the First Part, and Hudibras: the Second Part were first published in 1663. Hudibras: the Third and Last Part was published first in 1678. The text covers popish plotting, nonconformist subversion, and institutional corruption through extraordinary similes drawn from extensive personal scholarship by the author.
