New York: R. R. Bowker Company, 1938. 8vo., 153 pp. Inscribed by the author to Beverly Hills bookseller Max Hunley on front free endpaper. Some pencil annotations throughout. Red buckram, gilt title on backstrip, covers very lightly worn, very good. First edition of this classic bibliography of children’s literature by one of America’s greatest bibliographers. Inscribed “For Max Hunl[e]y - Good friend - Jake” and dated with the date of publication, August 1, 1938. Max Hunley (1900-1990) was described by David Magee as “the dean of Beverly Hills antiquarian booksellers.” In 2002 the Zamorano Club published an interview with Hunley titled “A true and authentic account of the life of the distinguished bibliophile and bookseller Maxwell Hunley, Esq.: as heard from his own lips.” A nice association copy.
