The essay by Carey Bliss, of the Huntington Library, gives a brief history of early herbals and the stories of the scholar Rembert Dodoens and the printer Christopher Plantin in "an attempt to show how the two men, long-time friends, combined forces to produce one of the great illustrated herbals of the sixteenth century". The leaf illustrates two plants from the Sinapis (mustard) genus and two from the Eruca (arugula) genus and is in fine condition. Item #6061
