§ A handsomely bound set of Bewick's British Birds; second edition of vol. 1, first edition of vol. 2 (Roscoe 15c and 17a), with 218 woodcuts of land and water birds and 226 woodcut vignette tail pieces. In vol. 1, the pigsty vignette on page 285 has been prudishly inked over but not completely obliterated; the advertisement on the verso of the final leaf is for the fourth edition of the Quadrupeds. The volumes come from the library of the distinguished book collector and philanthropist Charles Williams Dyson Perrins who was grandson of one of the founding partners of Lee & Perrins and heir to a fortune derived from Worcester Sauce.
