§ Three plates (4, 9, and 11) as listed below. The complete book with all twelve plates is a rare and important color-plate book -- single plates are seldom met with. A first-hand report, in words and pictures, of the first offensive war fought by the United States... Nebel was present with Kendall and drew the illustrations on the spot during the fighting. Although the book was printed in America the plates were printed and colored in Paris by Lemercier. The three plates here offered are the Bombardment of Vera-Cruz; Molino del Rey - attack upon the casamata; Storming of Chapultepec - Pillow's attack. See Howes K76; Sabin 37362; Bennett p.65.
