Sm 8vo, [viii], 128 pp. Old calf ruled in blind, rebacked with old backstrip laid down. Boards rubbed, tips worn, lacking pastedowns and endpapers but with text complete (A B-I ), title-page toned. A good copy with the bookplate of Richard Benyon of Englefield House in Berkshire.

§ First English translation of Antoine Le Grand's L'Épicure Spirituel, ou l'Empire de la Volupté sur les Vertus (1669). Le Grand (1629–1699) was a French Franciscan Recollect friar and Cartesian philosopher. He spent the latter part of his life in London and Oxford defending Descartes’ philosophy against the English critics.
