New York: Doubleday, Page & Co. London: William Heinemann. Philadelphia: J.B. Lippincotte Co.
4to, xviii, 76pp. With 24 tipped in titled tissue-guarded color plates by Rackham and numerous other monochrome illustrations, some full page. Plate III and tissue guard loose, plate XII creased. Original beige boards stamped in gilt on the upper cover, vellum backstrip lettered in gilt, a bit soiled and dull, backstrip recently repaired, but bright and clean internally.
§ De luxe edition limited to 550 copies signed by Rackham; this is copy 466. An unusual book for Rackham, but one in which he explored the beauty of sensuality in an enchanted realm (omitting some of Milton’s uglier conceits) and gave the poem a new and rather delightful tone. Item #124104
