§ De luxe edition, # XLIII of 50 printed on paper specially made by hand by Barcham, Green of Hayle Mill. This is the first facsimile edition of Caxton's "Fables of Esope", 1484 (STC 175). It reproduces (original size) the unique perfect copy of the work in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle, which contains a life of Aesop and is illustrated with woodcuts. Caxton translated the fables from Julien Macho's 1482 French version and it proved so popular the version was still being printed in 1658. Item #122907
