§ First regular edition, signed “V. Sackville-West / Christmas 1926”. The Land was “an ambitious attempt to write a modern version of Virgil's Georgics by celebrating the annual round of the Kentish farming year” (DNB). It is dedicated to her lover, the poet Dorothy Wellesley, Duchess of Wellington, who was for a time an editor at the Hogarth Press. The poem was the winner of the Hawthornden prize in 1927.
