§ First edition, an uncommon book in good condition. “Sumner, as ardent an abolitionist as existed, was savagely beaten on the floor of the Senate. This seat was held for the crippled and recovering Senator by the Massachusetts legislature until he was able to resume it some years later. Sumner's interests extended beyond slavery to what we would now define more broadly as human rights.” (Peter Stern, ABAA). Item #110805
