§ A fictionalized account of life in Stalin's forced labor camps based on the decade the author spent as a a prisoner in different gulags. It was the only novel Solzhenitsyn was allowed to publish in Russia. It was first published in English in 1963. This edition, published the same year, was sold in aid of the International Rescue Committee. Solzhenitsyn was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1970. Item #110565
