§ Two playbills from 1854 featuring “Mr. Forrest,” in “Damon and Pythias or The Test of Friendship,” and “Gladiator!” Edwin Forrest (1806-1872) was the first American-born star of the U.S. stage. His feud with British actor William Charles Macready was said to have played a major role in the deadly Astor Place Riot of 1849. Item #108140
