[Ashby de la Zouch: 1858] 4to, viii, 11pp. With a frontispiece and 54 lithographic plates. Original illustrated boards, red cloth backstrip, a bit worn and dusty but very good. The object of the Anastatic Society was to delineate remains of antiquities, such as ancient buildings, sepulchral monuments, fonts, brasses, stained glass, tiles, armour, dress, jewellery, plates, embroidery, furniture, carvings, illuminations of ancient MSS, copies of rare prints, portraits, seals, coins, heraldry, etc. This volume includes three plates of Aston Hall, seat of the Holtes, which was one of the grandest Jacobean houses in England and was the basis for Irving’s Bracebridge Hall, taking the name from Abraham Bracebridge, the last of the Holte family to live there.
