Oscar Wilde: Recollections by Jean Paul Raymond & Charles Ricketts.

London: The Nonesuch Press, 1932. 8vo, 60, (2, blank, 2 colophon and imprint)pp. Original white cloth with gilt titles and decoration designed by Ricketts, title-page with a cut printed in red, top edge gilt. First edition, number 324 of 800 copies. "Charles Ricketts wrote and in 1929 privately issued 'Beyond the Threshold', which he pretended was but his translation from the original French of Jean Paul Raymond. He again introduces this imaginary author into his own recollections of Oscar Wilde. Although the setting is invented the episodes and conversations were conscientiously taken from diaries and letters that he had kept. By this artifice Ricketts created a sympathetic audience for his words of passionate indignation at the fate of his friend." The lovely restrained typography is by Francis Meynell. Item #109944
