The Wind in the Willows.

New York: Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1908. 8vo., 302 pp., title-page printed in black and red, frontispiece with tissue guard. Original light olive-green cloth lettered in gilt with a single-rule border, backstrip lettered in gilt, top-edge gilt, other edges uncut. Slight fraying at foot and crown, and the cloth, most notably the backstrip has sunned to a light brown, framing the center of each board much like a shadow around a ray of light, shining onto a mossy forest floor. Overall a very good copy, one of those rare occurrence's that the aging of the cloth lends to it’s whimsical quality and appeal. First American edition of the classic children’s tale, featuring Toad, Rat, Mole, and Badger. The American edition was issued the same year as the English one, though in a different binding; it includes the same frontispiece by Graham Robertson. An absolutely essential book for a collector of children’s books, or for reading to a child or friend in the evening hours. Item #106155
