Vignette arms of Pope Alexander VII on title. Contemporary Roman olive morocco gilt by Gregorio Andreoli for Cardinal Giulio Rospigliosi (later Pope Clement IX), tooled to a post-fanfare design incorporating azured lozenges derived from the Rospigliosi arms and fan corner ornaments, shaped compartments with a semé of tiny stars or flames, backstrip with central flower tool and arabesques, gilt edges. Slight wear at extremities, backstrip lightly faded and with minor repair at head, a few wormholes at tail, and slight wear... $12,750.00

[Emerson, Ralph Waldo.] Cambridge, MA, Printed at the Riverside Press, 1903-04. 12 vols, 8vo. Original half green morocco, backstrips faded to brown as usual. A very good set as issued, Limited to 600 sets, with a leaf of manuscript in the hand of Emerson inserted at the front of volume 1. The manuscript, written in brown ink on both sides of the sheet, is from “The Natural History of Intellect” (here in vol. 12) and varies quite considerably from the published version. ... $4,500.00

Tarbé, 1791. 3 parts in 2 vols., 8vo, (2), viii, 475; iv, 464 pp. Early half calf, marbled boards, rebacked to style. A very good copy. First edition of this catalogue of the collection of the Cardinal de Brienne, offering the collection en bloc for six months and then piecemeal thereafter. The collection was broken up and sold in 1371 lots in Paris in 1792. In addition to the very strong holdings of incunabula, block books and 56 text and illuminated manuscripts are also described. A Dictionary of Painters from the Revival of the Art to the Present Period. A New Edition, with Considerable Additions, an Appendix, and an Index by Henry Fuseli, R.A [Pilkington, Matthew] London, J. Walker; Wilkie and Robinson [et al.], 1810. 4to, xxiv, 678 pp. Old calf scuffed and worn, but a perfectly serviceable copy good for reading. Second edition to be revised by Fuseli, following the 1805 edition. “Pilkington’s dictionary was originally published in 1770. Fuseli’s ‘Advertisement’ states that in this 1810 edition he added ‘considerably more than 300 names and characters of artists,’ mostly of the Spanish school” (Boston Book Co.).
